Of Tacking and New Light
by Gozz inthe subject of 'new light' holds some fascination for me.
and i have sought a wide spectrum of views to really understand the concept.
proverbs (4:18, i think) says the path of the righteous on gets lighter and lighter; pastor russel (or some very old literature)reaffirmed this inspired thought by stating that 'new light' never contradicts 'old light', only that it makes things clearer.

Things said from the platform
by MoodyBlue ini recalled something said a while back by an elder during a service meeting a while back.
i beleive it was a local needs part on getting out in service.
basically what he said was this:.

Oh the memories. I had forgotten. Don't blaming you for needing to vent your frustrations MB. We've all had them.
Vent any time you need to.
Joel, you too. Brought it all back. "oh for the leeks and the onions" oh no that was the Jews sorry.

Heresy of the Month
by thinker inheresy of the month (from a website).
don't you hate it when someone you know comes up with some new thing that you have never heard about?
you sit there in apparent ignorance as they pontificate about the proofs and merits of some idea so far beyond common knowledge that it can only be revealed by people of exceptional enlightenment such as they.

Thank you all very much for the enlightening abbreviations. This has been worrying me for a very long time. I have figured a few of them out and even used them. But some of them eluded me. RTFM has got to be one of my absolute faves. But I must admit, sometimes flippin' just isn't a strong enough term sometimes.
Larc,
You are truly a literary genius. I look forward to your very enlightening scriptural references. BTW, don't you think it is time my very excellent husband receives elder's status? I think he is ready now. Also could we have a side of Herbal Life, Slim fast just isn't on my menu. And make sure the bread doesn't have any fat in it. And BTW, I like dry wine.

What are the reasons?
by neyank inhi all,.
someone asked me the other day why i am so interested in reading about jws,ex jws and things that are going on with the wts.. i think for the most part, only those who have been involved with the wts can understand why we are so interested in the subject.. of course having believed everything the wts has told us over the years and dedicating our lives to it kept us tied in with them.. what are the different reasons that you all have for continuing to be preocupied with the wts?.

Struggle,
Perish the thought. I don't think they would like you talking to us at all. I only wish I had known about this site a long time ago!!
Larc,
I love you and Zazz. Will support you now any time you need it.

Gozz,
I am in total agreement with you. It is not sound. You cannot discard completely huge doctrines or what you based them on and completely change your tack and still claim to be correct.
Just doesn't make good sense.

DISFELLOWSHIPED
by GeneBean ini was raised a jw left when i was 20 years old.
i have been out for 20 years until i met a brother and started studying.
after a year or so i met a sister who had been in the truth for all her life,46 years, she had been married 2 times.i fell in love with her.people had warned me that she was trouble, but i could not see it,i figured that she had to be better than the women that i knew in the world.i was in love,so we married 4 months later.thing were going good for a while i had been going to all the meetings and out to service,i noticed she was allways running down the elders, makeing fun of sisters,to and from the meetings.i started getting tired of it.so i told her i was not going to go to the meetings if she kept it up.we started arguing things got worse her mother and kids allways came 1st and for me last.the elders got involved, she left me went to her mothers.

P.S. He didn't leave because of the "no sex clause". Not really sure why he left. But I am glad he did.

Welcome GeneBean,
What a rough road you have had. So sorry to hear it.
If you will read through the posts on this db, you will find many others had rough times as well. It helps to know you are not alone.
The issues you faced with your wife hardly seem fair.
The elders encouraged me to continue having sex with a very abusive man. For thirteen years I did. Then the last three I told him clearly that if he was going to scream at me twenty four seven, no sex.
It was very hard for me. Women have needs too.
The bottom line is he finally left me. I am now married to a wonderful man "in the world" and we have a wonderful relationship all the way around.
Whatever you mean byIm feeling terrible, its going to be a long road back.
be cautious. This time do what your heart really tells you. Do what is right for you. I wish I had, way back when.

need help re 607 date
by hosebracket ini am new to this.. i have a problem.
someone on my ministry asked me about the date that we hold so dear....607 bce and asked me to prove it to them.
this would not be a problem i thought as the f&ds would have solid basis for using such a date.

I too would like to see some solid proof regarding 607. Every source I have examined say 587 or 586.
And what a ridiculous premiseThe society in its wisdom have presented a simple, historical and scriptural methodolgy for dating the fall of Jerusalem as nicely explained in the literature. In this age of 'higher criticism' it is pleasing to see that with the aid of secular chronologies based upon eclipses and the Babylonian records can brings us to within a striking distance of some twenty years to 607.
What kind of wisdom is it to say it is within a striking distance of some twenty years? That just doesn't cut it with me when the entire basis of JW belief is based on 1914 which is figured on the date 607. Some twenty years makes a huge difference IMHO.
I for one have not seen a shred of evidence for 607. What kind of convoluted reasoning is this?
One that is not acceptable.

Living A Lie
by MoodyBlue ini am sick of living a lie, yet afraid to change it.
married to a man who refuses to listen, who would rather plug his ears and shout "nooooooo" is taking it's tole.
i am afraid to speak my mind about my doubt, my thoughts, and what i'm learning, as i'm not ready to cross that point of no return.
